Rakhine Authorities Seize Rohingya own Vehicles in Sittwe

by Admin,

Rakhine authorities start a new operation to seize all vehicles own by Rohingya and also arresting the drivers and passengers from last week in Sittwe/Akyab township of Arakan state.

Rakhine authorities led by police forces have started crackdown on Rohingya people' vehicles operating to transport goods within the Rohingya village. From last week, at least 3 vehicles were seized, 4 drivers, 13 passengers and 2 vehicle owners from Sakki Fara (Thakkaybyin) and Furun Fara (Bumay) villages, were arrested. Some of them were released by payment and some are sentenced instantly and then transferred to Sittwe Central Jail.

One of the victims, Mr. Amin who was released by payment said that their vehicles' registration and licenses have been expired as result of confinement and restriction in place on Rohingya people. But knowingly, the authorities just disadvantaging on them.

He also added, "we operate by making payment to security forces those escort in our villages so they allow us with certain conditions but when a new operation involving various departments came down to arrest us, now these village security forces just join with them and arrest us".

Surprisingly, ongoing humanitarian crisis across Arakan state has been now over two years and yet no mechanism has able to enhance the central government to normalize the situation, nor end attacks against Arakanese Rohingya and Kaman. As well as, rations supply for displaced Rohingyas and Kamans from Pauktaw, Kyauktaw, Kyaukpyu, Myebon, Minbya townships are subsequently cut off from February
